Feel like your best self this summer and say goodbye to your C-Section overhang!

Meet my client Rebecca, who attended my C-Section Transformation Retreat in 2021 wanting to leave her C-Section overhang behind her and feel more confident in summer clothing. Rebecca left the retreat feeling motivated and was confidently completing her scar massage and core connection exercises.

Life then got in the way and having booked a family holiday abroad; she knew she wouldn’t feel confident enough to join in any of the fun in the sun and would miss out on precious memory-making with her children.

Jump ahead just 6 months and Rebecca loved wearing her summer wardrobe whilst on her best family holiday. Isn’t that amazing? Wearing gorgeous summer dresses 2 clothes sizes smaller and wearing her pre-pregnancy clothes helped return her confidence.

If the thought of summer days, and nights give you all the feels- you know the ones, that make you want to hide underneath a sun parasol? You can experience the amazing changes Rebecca found by:

1. Scar massage

Scar massage has numerous benefits for your recovery and helps you to desensitise your incision and surrounding tummy area as well as bring back sensation and work on deeper layers of your tummy. Massaging the scar tissue increases blood flow to the area which adds to the elasticity of the tissue and allows the scar tissue to be broken down easier.

Massaging this area also helps promote overall healing and the look of the scar, as well as the general look of your tummy. It not only helps the scar to flatten and eliminates that overhang but also reduces painful periods and bowel issues that are due to adhesions that have formed between scar tissue and organs.

Only start this process when the scar has healed, and any stitches have dissolved or been removed. Use a gentle oil against your scar, such as coconut oil, E45, or Vaseline on clean hands and use small circular movements to move the scar.

This doesn’t take longer than 5 minutes a day but works a treat!

2. Regain your strength from the inside out:

Less is more when you start your recovery journey, whether that’s 2 weeks or 2 years postpartum.

If you’re desperate to go running again, lift weights, or simply want to live your wildest and most fun life with your little ones, build strong foundations first and then layer on more impact types of movement and workouts. Please check in with your health practitioner before starting to exercise but if you have had a C-Section you will usually need to wait at least 10-12 weeks postpartum to start exercising again. Gentle exercises such as walking or stretching can begin as soon as you feel ready for it. Starting exercise too soon after birth can cause harm to the connective tissue that holds your organs in place (and no one wants that!).

Rebecca started with releasing areas that she needed for core reconnection including her diaphragm (remember when you could hardly walk up the stairs without being out of breath during pregnancy?) to be able to take a full breath again and create some movement in her abdominal wall and only then did she start with Pilates based exercises.
